The proposals for Wood Street primarily involve reducing the carriage width from four lanes to two lanes and increasing the pavement widths. There will be tree planting and lighting columns on both sides of the pavements. The paving materials for the pavements will complement the rest of the proposed public realm.
The generous pavement widths allow for future realignment to accommodate Cardiff Council’s Metro aspirations.
The redesign of Wood Street provides an opportunity to reinforce the strong desire to cross over to St Mary Street. The need for safe and convenient pedestrian and cycle friendly junctions, on Wood Street, will therefore be of considerable importance.
